Eva K. Bowlby Public Library offers free movie nights

The Eva K. Bowlby Public Library located on West Street in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, hosts many events on a weekly basis to provide visitors with free opportunities to socialize and learn.

The library’s mission is “to provide, through the use of traditional and emerging technologies, materials and services for community residents of all ages for literacy, information, fun and enrichment.”

Every Wednesday night at 6 p.m., guests of all ages are welcome to attend free movie nights which also include light refreshments. The movie varies week to week, but the positive environment remains the same.

“The event is a free service to the community to provide new movies or holiday centered movies. Since we do not have a movie theatre in our community, we try to fill the need for activities by offering the movie nights,” said Megan Ealy, family literacy coordinator at the Bowlby Library.

The purpose of this program is to offer a program to the community that families can attend to have time together at no cost to them. Although she could not provide an exact number, Ealy concluded the movie nights have been a fan favorite for several years. The library staff tries their hardest to keep up to date with the films being shown, as well as working to incorporate details into the snacks provided so that it coincides with the movie itself.

“We have varying turnouts due to factors such as weather, school events and the selected movie,” Ealy said. “Movies are selected based on varying circumstances. We try to have new releases available right away and offer themed movies such as ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’ during the fall season with the snack being his Thanksgiving feast of buttered toast, jelly beans and popcorn.”

It is encouraged that all attend each week to enjoy an incredible community get-together.

“For age ranges, we try to keep it family-friendly at least half the month,” Ealy said. “However, some new releases have been more for an adult audience. We are a public library that likes to bring all viewpoints to our patrons.”

Those at the library would like to thank all of those who express interest in this program because they truly appreciate the turnout. They would like to invite everyone to come and enjoy a movie and light refreshments for free.

“It makes for great bonding time for families in this hectic world we tend to get caught up in,”  Ealy said.

To those interested and would like to make some memories at a free movie night, attend every Wednesday during the winter from 6-8 p.m. and during the summer from 5-7 p.m.
