Annual bull riding event set for end of April

Bull riding keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, building anticipation while being one of the most intense sports practiced worldwide. On April 25, the Greene County Fairgrounds, located at 107 Fairgrounds Rd., will host extreme bull riding and barrel racing events. Waynesburg University’s Commuter Club and Student Activities Board (SAB) have teamed up to offer students a chance to attend this exciting event.

Morgan Bedilion, a sophomore and president of the Commuter Club, discussed the collaboration between SAB and the commuter club to bring students into the community.

“Waynesburg is not very big, and we do not have a lot of events,” Bedilion said. “But when we do, I think it is really important the students experience that and get the chance to go to events.”

Bedilion also spoke about the positive response from the local community when students participate in events like this.

“They love seeing the students, they love all the work we do,” she said. “They love talking to students, and it’s really interesting to see.”

Pat Bristor, associate dean of students and director of Student Engagement, initially expressed reservations when the Commuter Club first organized the event last spring.

“When the Commuter Club first initiated the event, I was hesitant,” Bristor said. “But when we opened it up to commuters as well as residents, I believe there were close to 60 students that went last year.”

Bristor emphasized the importance of students attending the event and the opportunity to experience something new.

“For most, especially people from cities, it probably isn’t something they’d have the opportunity to do,” she said. “Students can experience new things, support our local community and attend one last event with friends.”

Sign-ups for the extreme bull riding event are available now through April 21, at 12 p.m. To learn more, visit studentwaynesburg.sharepoint.com and check the website’s bulletin board for additional information.
