On your mark! Get set! Go join the Relay for Life!

The Relay for Life event is returning this Friday, April 12, for a four-hour event. It scheduled to take place at Waynesburg University from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“Adrienne Tharp and I last year started to bring it back as an abbreviated relay,” said Assistant Dean of Students Pat Bristor. “The American Cancer Society allows us to do that where before, we had a mini relay to be 12 hours.”

The event will begin in Johnson Commons with a welcome and introduction, which will consist of four Waynesburg University employees being recognized for surviving cancer.

According to Assistant Dean of Student Development Adrienne Tharp, the relay itself will be a walking survivor lap around the Waynesburg Parks if the weather is appropriate. There has been no location picked out if the weather does not permit

“If you wanted to register a group of you or your friends,” said Tharp. “You would register under the [team] name and anybody who wanted to join would register under that team.”

With this being the 175 Anniversary of Waynesburg University, Tharp and Bristor have groups that are participating in the relay to raise $175.

“This year our goal is to raise $5,000,” said Bristor. “We’re anxious to see what the students do. And we have asked student organizations to raise $175. Two groups have already done that.”

Those who do not wish to participate in the walk are welcome to participate in other activities as well.

After the relay, the Waynesburg University Cheer team will be showcasing a few cheers for their Cheer for a Cure. The Sting Swing will be there as well showing people how to do a few line dances.

There will also be different games to play throughout the event. The main one is the corn hole tournament which will be $5 to play. Other games featured are Yard Games, Pie in the Face and Splash Tower.
