PGA/LIV Updates and ‘The Match’

The first day of September approaches and all Scottie Scheffler has to do as he approaches the 18th hole is to not fall apart. Scheffler is able to make it on the green and is looking to win the TOUR Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. He hits the putt and Scheffler is your 2024 winner.

I was watching on TV when Scheffler won the TOUR Championship on Saturday to secure a $25 million paycheck. He ended up shooting 30 under par.

After he won a few days later we found out he will be competing in the PGA Tour-LIV showdown.

“It’s the first time since LIV Golf’s launch in 2022 that players from both the PGA Tour,” according to golf.com. “The breakaway rival league will face off against each other in an exhibition match.”

According to the aforementioned website, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will be on team LIV competing against Rory McIlroy and Scheffler as they represent the PGA Tour

The date for this match has not been released but as of right now it is supposed to take place in Las Vegas in the middle of December.

“It should be pretty good,” said junior Garrett Susko. “I believe that this will help the merger as it brings a little pressure on them to get a deal done.”

I believe that this is a huge step for both the LIV and the PGA Tour as they have been competing for years for the best golfers, and now we see some of the best compete against each other.

There have been plenty of rumors and ongoing talks about how the PGA Tour and the LIV were going to merge but the talks about merging just keep getting pushed back further and further.

“I am not truly against the merger but it’s just going to continue to get pushed back,” said Susko. “I just want to see some of the best golfers golf if I’m being honest.”

If the merger does happen, questions could rise rapidly.

If LIV players play in the PGA Tour would they return as PGA Tour members? How often can LIV and PGA Tour players compete in each other’s events?

There are many questions that still need answers and all we can do is continue to wait.
