On Wednesday, Oct. 20, The Waynesburg University Men’s soccer team traveled to Latrobe, Pa. for a head-to-head matchup against the Saint Vincent Bearcats. 

The Yellow Jackets captured a win with a score of 2-0 over the Bearcats. The victory brings Waynebsurg’s record to 2-12 overall this season.

After a scoreless first half of play, Waynesburg turned around their performance at halftime. Their takeover started with a goal from freshman forward Seth Massotti assisted by sophomore forward Ben White. 

Putting in the final goal of the game was sophomore forward Tyler Mohrbacher, his second of the season. The assist for the goal went to Massotti. 

The victory pulls the Yellow Jackets out of an 11 game losing streak. Mohrbacher credits this win to the team taking the lead first over the Bearcats.

“The story and downfall of our season has been that we are always chasing from behind and never getting the first goal,” Mohrbacher said. “Since we went into halftime with the score at 0-0, we knew that the way to put the game away was to get that first goal, so we went out on a mission to get that goal, and when it came, play really opened up for us to play our best soccer.”

Waynesburg identified that the key was to focus on themselves and their game play. Mohrbacher stated that when they feel their best, they can compete with any team in the PAC. 

The coaching staff also emphasized intensity, pressure and overall quality of play in order to travel the road to victory for the day.

After this successful game against Saint Vincent, Waynesburg is looking to continue their success for the remaining two games of the season. The Yellow Jackets will end their 2021 season by competing against Theil and then Geneva. 

Mohrbacher stated that not only does he want to finish the season strong but build the team up looking ahead to next season already. 

“We want to sprint through the finish line, and we want to keep building a strong program for the years to come,” Mohrbacher said. “This is why it’s important to take our confidence and positive play into these last two games of the season because we’re chasing something bigger than just good results.”
