Brothers perform at final spring Wing Night

The Student Activities Board (SAB) Wing Night was held Wednesday, March 22, and had a music duo from Buffalo, New York play for the students.  The Doyle Brothers, who have been around music their entire lives, performed their spin on some popular songs as well as took requests from the audience.

“We started doing this about 7 years ago, this whole project as a duo with [Todd] playing the Cajon and us both singing and stuff,”  said singer Ryan Jacob Doyle.

Ryan Doyle is the younger one of the two brothers, and they both love working together and going to different gigs at universities and having fun.

“We have been going to colleges a lot for the past five years or so,” said Ryan Doyle. “I would say that going to colleges is by far one of my favorite projects because this project is very petite, it is not your common rock band where you write some songs and put out a record and you tour on it.  Our project is more built on being a chameleon you know, as in we can play any sort of event in any room.”

The students in attendance were able to eat four wings each for starters with flavors including Hot Wings, BBQ and Garlic.  They could also get carrots, celery, lemonade and sweet tea.

“I like it.  I enjoyed the music a lot, the rhythm, the song choices, it is just a mix of everything,”  said freshman Daniel Albright. “The wings were good too; they reminded me a lot about wings from a pizza place.”

Ryan and Todd Doyle really got the students involved, allowing them to request songs or letting them sing along to the songs they knew.

“You guys stumped us today with Sticks and YMCA,” said Ryan Doyle.

Students also got to put their names into a drawing for a gift basket that had items such as Oreo cookies, Pringles potato chips, candy and other sugary items.

“It was really good, I thought that the [Doyle Brothers] did a really good job singing old songs, that everyone likes so they can sing along,” said sophomore Julie Sipes, who is a member of SAB.

The Doyle Brothers’ main goal is to perform near New York City, which is where they both live now, especially since Todd is now a father.  Wing Night was actually the duo’s first gig since the birth of Todd’s child.

“It is interesting because we have been around college towns long enough that we know how the music industry works and bands have to evolve,” said Ryan Doyle. “So, we as a whole have a lot of songs from 90s bands that we grew up with listening to, that when we first started playing in college towns it was what the college kids wanted to hear because we were all the same age.  Now it is hilarious because for a while we have had to learn all these new contemporary pop songs that people would know and it is fun to consistently learn new music, but it is interesting because the songs we would usually go to and play people would not know them.  Now 90s songs are back and kids want to listen to the songs their parents listened to when they were kids.”
