Adam Huckstein The 2024-25 season is definitely one that head coach Tim Fusina believed lacked consistency from his team, as the Waynesburg men’s basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 7-18 and a conference record of 5-15. A goal for this upcoming season is consistency.
“We haven’t been consistent,” Fusina said.
Fusina is not only the head coach of the men’s basketball team, but he is also Waynesburg University’s Athletic Director.
Fusina believes consistency is a prevalent issue within some programs, but thinks his team has that problem more than anybody.
“I think we have that problem more than anybody. It’s that we’re very inconsistent,” Fusina said. “I think we have only two winning seasons and in between there was the five-win season and the seven-win season.”
Heading into his seventh season as the Yellow Jackets head coach, Fusina is looking for a group of players who can consistently put out effort and win in this conference.
As the 2025-26 season is only two months away, the Yellow Jackets will be without a handful of seniors, including former All-PAC selection and Defensive Player of the Year, Antone Baker. Fusina talked about another player that can step up in Baker’s place.
“I think Jalen Goins had a good experience last year,” Fusina said. “I think he was a little inconsistent as well, but that’s really the first time he got serious time at the college level. So, I’m looking for him to have a pretty good year because he does have that experience now.”
Goins, a senior guard, named some ways he can take a leap this season.
“I feel I can step up this season by being a consistent leader for our team,” Goins said. “That means setting the tone in practice, holding myself accountable, and keeping everyone locked in when things get tough.”
Besides acting as a leader, another way Goins thinks he can step up is by impacting the game in multiple ways, whether that be scoring, defending, rebounding, or making plays for his teammates.
Goins wasn’t the only player Fusina mentioned; he talked about senior guards Scott Bilovus, Casey Keesee and Grant Barnhart being the shot makers this year.
The Yellow Jackets begin play on Nov. 7 in the Hawks Against Hunger Tip-Off Tournament.
