In Motion Dance to hold Chakra Healing series

In Motion Dance will be hosting the Chakra Healing Series beginning Oct. 16, and continuing weekly for a total of four classes. Chakras are points of energy in the body, as defined by In Motion teacher, Dolly Throckmorton, who spearheaded the idea of this class.

“I have been thinking about this class for a while,” Throckmorton said. “I thought it would be a fun class to do for people to introduce them to yoga, the chakras and including a gemstone bracelet to correspond with each chakra. It would be a nice reminder for them after the class finishes.”

Chakras are seen as a “portal” of energy to the body, according to Hinduism and Buddhism beliefs.

“Without getting too heady, think of these balls of energy as spinning freely when they are open or unblocked,” Throckmorton said. “When these points are blocked, you may notice certain sensations within your body or mind. One example may be: ‘I can never speak my truth or say what I want to really say’. The theory is that the throat chakra may be blocked, so the energy is not able to flow freely. This blockage could be from past trauma of criticism or even your own mind convincing you that what you have to say is not valid or important. So, in the class, we will discuss each chakra, what it denotes, what types of issues you may be having if it’s blocked, yoga asanas or poses we can pair with the specific chakras, and meditations and breathing exercises we can use to help open the chakras. Our goal is to have them all open, working together.”

The classes will be held at the West High Street, Waynesburg, studio.

“I hope people learn some techniques to open up the chakras,” Throckmorton said. “That may be in the form of feeling more grounded, tapping into their creative side, gaining confidence, trusting their intuition, opening their heart, using their voice, and aid in discovering their true purpose. We all struggle in these areas at one or multiple times in our journey through life. I think it’s helpful to have many tools in our toolbox to aid us.”

According to Throckmorton, if those interested cannot make all four classes, there may be a make-up of some kind in the future.
