On Wednesday night, the Waynesburg University’s volleyball team fell to Muskingum in three sets, however senior libero Jordan Stein reached 1,000 career digs during the loss.
Despite heading into the match with 990 career digs, Stein did not have any idea that she was so close to reaching the milestone.
“I honestly did not have any idea that it was coming up,” Stein said. “I was focused on winning that game with my team. Although it is a great accomplishment, I could not have done it without the support of my team and my coaches.”
Stein also spoke about the team’s preparation as the Yellow Jackets begin conference play.
“We have been progressing a lot from last season and have been working tremendously hard since we moved into campus,” Stein said. “This team has started to build cohesion which we have been lacking for the past couple of years and I am so excited to go into Presidents’ Athletic Conference play to watch the hard work pay off.”
Jordan Stein led the Yellow Jackets with her season high eighteen digs. Junior Riley Ruffley recorded fifteen assists. Sophomore Kristina Zadrozny finished with seven kills offensively along with six kills by sophomore Krista Wilson.
The Yellow Jackets came into this game losing ten straight sets, and eleven straight matches dating back to last season.
Even with the loss, the mindset hasn’t changed from last season.
“As a team I feel like we could have had a different mindset after last season and losing a coach, but instead, I feel like this season we are all playing for each other,” Zadrozny said. “We are all also putting are all into every practice and it will show in the court.”
Zadrozny spoke about the direction the team wants to go and how they are preparing for their next game.
“I feel like everyone of us what’s to win, and we’re going to put everything we have into the next few practices and into next week’s game.”
With the win, Muskingum improves to a 4-1 record and will travel to Baldwin Wallace to take on Adrian College on Saturday at 1pm start time and Baldwin Wallace at 3 p.m. start time.
The Yellow Jackets fall to a 0-5 record and will begin conference play on Thursday against the defending PAC Champion Bethany Bison. The match starts at 7pm at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
