The fall season is here, and with that comes the inevitable exodus of leaves along with celebrations. According to the Pennsylvania Weather Action, a regional meteorologist website which calculates Pennsylvania’s fall foliage, the leaves are expected to peak from Oct. 22-28 in Greene County.
Greene County is outlined in the article, but not labeled. However, within the map there is an outline of Waynesburg, Greene County, PA, that is within the “c” category for fall foliage according to the article by Pennsylvania Weather Action reports.
With this colorful change of season, many are probably wondering if there are any fall festivals or events planned.
Fall festivals in Greene County, Waynesburg, PA, kick off on October 7 and 8 with the 52nd Annual Harvest Festival. The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 918 Rolling Meadows Road Waynesburg, PA.
Next, the Denny House, located at 145 W High St., Waynesburg, PA, is offering ghost tours for the Denny house and the historic Huffman house. Ghost tours will beOct. 20, 21, and 28, according to Damon Keys, who works for the Outsider Paranormal Southwestern PA, or OSPA, organization.
“You can come in, we tell them stories about the spirits in the estates, and then they get the opportunity to investigate using paranormal equipment and interact with the spirits that are there,” Keys said.
The tours are offered from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. to12 a.m. Keys stated tours cost thirty dollars per person. The OPSPA organization has been doing tours in the area for the last five years and this year has partnered with the Denny house owner.
They promise a real paranormal experience. “In any tours at all we try to give people the most authentic, real experience; we don’t promise paranormal activity because we can’t make the spirits do tricks, some nights they might interact and some nights they might not, but you’re going to get an authentic investigative experience,” Keys said.
Tickets for the Denny house ghost tours can be bought at the door or online, but Keys advises to buy them online beforehand due to limited availability.
Another fall festivity near Waynesburg isthe Flenniken Public Library hosting a Hocus Pocus in the Park event on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event will take place in Wana B Park located at 355 Ceylon Rd, Carmichaels, PA.
