The men’s and women’s cross-country team traveled to Thiel College this weekend, for the Tomcat Rumble meet.
The women placed fourth out of nine teams and the men placed fourth out of seven teams.
Heading into this meet, both the men and women were coming off a race at Lock Haven University. The women placed ninth out of 17 teams and the men placed 10th out of 21 teams.
The women’s team was led by senior Alyssa Ambrisco, and sophomore Regan Pettis who came across the finish line placing 22nd and 23rd. Shortly after, three more lady jackets crossed the line placing 35th, 36th, and 37th. Those runners were senior Michaela Rose, sophomore Grace Tanksley, and senior Gabi Reifsnyder.
The men’s team was led by graduate student Quintin Weaver who took 2nd place out of 63 runners. Following Weaver was senior Andrew Kasper who crossed the finish line placing fourth.
Although this meet had more PAC competitors, there was a more specific reason to run at Thiel this past weekend.
“The main reason we went out to Thiel for this race was to preview the course,” Head Coach Chris Hardie said. “We weren’t worried about the competition as much. But we really wanted to get a good feel for the layout of the course so we would start to create a strategy for the championship race.”
Since it is now October, the second half of the season is now crucial leading up to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship meet that will take place on Oct. 28 at Thiel College.
“Once we get into October, we start to amp up our speed training and we compete a little harder in races,” Hardie said. “We anticipate times dropping a bit, as we will see some better competition, and we will be racing a little harder.”
The men’s and women’s Cross-Country team will head to Dickinson College on Saturday Oct. 7 for the Dickinson Pre-National Meet.
