Men’s basketball continues surge for another playoff season

The last time Waynesburg’s men’s basketball team played was in February of this year when they lost to Grove City in the first round of the President’s Athletics Conference playoffs. Despite this, the Jackets have been preparing for the upcoming season.

According to junior guard Scott Bilovus a weekly schedule consists of lifting four days a week, open gym three days, including conditioning two of the seven.

“Tuesdays at 6 am we run 22 in Rudy, then go outside and run the hill,” Bilovus said about the conditioning. “On Fridays at 6 am, we go to Wiley and do wind sprints, 40-yard dash, and a push-up circuit.”

“These are the best practices because they are helping us get ready for the season but also you get up,” Bilovus said. “Get your work done and you get the whole weekend to workout on your own time.”

Senior guard Pj Suggs had this to say on the matter, “Conditioning is helping us a lot. During the season there are going to be a lot of tough games and the team that is best conditioned mentally and physically will win”

“Conditioning has helped us bond as brothers because we all hold each other accountable and push each other to go harder,” Suggs added.

Suggs said this about the bond that has been building throughout the offseason.

“Our bond throughout the offseason came from working out and getting better together every day, this translates on the court as well,” Suggs said.

Suggs added, “We are always together most of the time, it’s very rare that you’ll see someone on the team without seeing their teammate with them.”

As for the lifting Suggs had this to say “We are committed to going in the gym or getting shots up as well.”

The open gyms consist of player-run tournaments, and the winner stays on.

“The runs are very competitive, and if you lose you’re bound to wait for a while,” Bilovus said. “With the amount of guys we have.”

On Oct.1, the team will begin offensive sessions based on their class schedule and on Oct. 15, they will begin full team practices.
