Men’s Golf defeats Bethany heading into PAC Championships

On Saturday afternoon at the Greene County Country Club, the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets men’s golf team secured a 4-2 match play win over the Bethany Bison.

Winning individual matchups for Waynesburg were Justin Clevenger (seven and six over Bethany’s Troy Hixson), Gage Fuller (eight and six over Quinn Phillippi), Nathan Barnhart (seven and five over Cole Hanson, and Tyler Rollinson, who went the distance in his match to earn the one up victory against Ethan Wilcyznski.

Barnhart was thrilled to have earned the victory, especially with his recent struggles.

“It felt great, it’s always nice seeing another win up on the board and gaining momentum and confidence to help us play well with the final half of the PAC championships coming,” Barnhart said.

He continued, saying “My swing has been off. I lost my touch and feel, but when I played my opponent, I felt it starting to come back to me which led me to the victory.”

Fuller was expecting the victory over Bethany.

“It was expected to beat Bethany. We know what we’re capable of and that puts us in the right direction come this weekend,” Fuller said.

With the PAC championships coming up, Barnhart, Fuller, and the rest of the team will look to get better, while also having fun.

“We are going to prepare like we always do, and as a team, have fun. It’s always nice having team bonding, good laughs, and making memories that I will carry with me throughout my career. I feel that with our current placement of sixth that we can bump up a few more spots at the conclusion of PAC’s,” Barnhart said.

“I know personally to prepare for PAC’s, I’m going to make sure my swing is dialed in, but team wise we need to go into this weekend with a winning mindset,” Fuller said.

The team is now 4-1 on the year and the Yellow Jackets will participate in the PAC championships this upcoming Friday, April 19th, at the Mill Creek Golf Club in Ohio.
