On Tuesday, September 26th, the Waynesburg University Men’s Golf team hosted and defeated La Roche in a home dual match at the Greene County Country Club.
Freshman Michael Clark shot a 79 on Tuesday, which was the lowest score of the day by either team.
“We did decently even though we got the win,” Freshman Nathan Barnhart said.
The Jackets defeated the Redhawks 330-349 but Barnhart believes that the team can play even better.
“I know that everyone wished they shaved off a few strokes… all we can do is improve our craft,” Barnhart said.
The following leaders for the Yellow Jackets contained sophomores Matthew Karpeal and Matt Ankrom placing second and third while shooting an 81 and 84.
Sophomore Hudson Pincavitch carded an 86 and senior Tyler Townsend shot an 88.
Despite the great match Tuesday, the Jackets would wake up early on Wednesday to compete in the Saint Vincent College Invitational where they’d place fifth out of ten teams, with a four-man score of 349.
Finishing fifth out of ten could seem like a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the way you look at it.
“You know you could do better and that there’s still work to do, but we still played as hard as we could,” Freshman Grady Palmer said.
Sophomores Matt Ankrom and Matthew Karpeal led the way for Waynesburg, with each recording an 83. Freshman Michael Clark posted an 86.
“The thing that went best for me during the round was ball striking and being able to keep it in play.” Clark said.
However, Clark said that there are some things to work on before the next match.
“My two major things to improve on before our next match would definitely be my putting and just overall consistency.”
The next men’s golf match will take place on Monday, October 2nd as they will compete in the La Roche Invitational at 11am.
