Men’s Golf shows growth in first tournament of the season at Geneva

For the Fall 2024 season, men’s golf teed it off at Connoquenessing Country Club hosted by Geneva College. As a team, they finished in second place behind the host team of Geneva, with a 315 collective score on the par-71 course, a stroke down from the national average of par for the course.

Waynesburg had quite a showing on Tuesday, with three golfers shooting in the 70s. Freshman Alan Tarolli shot the lowest with a 73, putting him in second place individually out of the 16 player field.

“He’s [Tarolli] only gonna get better. He can win any competition we’re in, but I’m not trying to put pressure on the guy, but he’s a really good ball striker, and he had an average ball striking day yesterday” Cipoletti stated. “He can shoot par on any course we play, just depends on how creative he can be”

Matthew Karpeal and Cesar Will Lapid both shot a seven over of 78 strokes. Under head coach Mike Cipoletti, this is the first time three players have shot in the 70s for a tournament. Finishing out the Yellow Jacket team was freshman Brock Bayles with an 86 and Hudson Pincavitch with a 90.

“We are all competitive, we all wanna be the best, especially me I wanna beat everybody. That’s just my competitive drive. Me and Brock came in as freshmen, and both pretty good, and some of the old guys say before they used to go out just for fun, but now they go out to play good and have fun, so it’s even more fun than before.” Tarolli said on the comrotary between the men’s team.

“Golf is a game of failures, everything that you’re trying to do, which is putting the ball in the hole, is going to be contested on the course. It’s a mindset game, and this team has developed a great mindset as a team and as individuals.” Cipoletti said.

Men’s golf will attend the Bison Fall Invite at Oglebay (Jones Course) in Wheeling West Virginia on Tuesday September 10th with tee times beginning at 10 am.
