Waynesburg Athletics On Monday Sept. 29, the men’s golf team traveled north to Grove City where the team competed in the Grove City Invitational, tying for sixth of 16 teams.
Senior Matt Karpeal, junior Hudson Pincavitch and sophomores Alan Tarolli and Braden Benke posted a four-man score of 308.
Pincavitch finished with a score of 76 and placed 20th overall. He said he was happy with his performance on Saturday.
“It was good, it was a good day, everything kind of went well. Played the course well, played smart overall with how I was attacking every shot. Just one of those days, a good day,” Pincavitch said.
Pincavitch said the competition as well was high, and that was a factor towards the finish he had.
“The one thing that stood out was the competition. It was good, a lot of good scores. I thought my score would have been good enough for a higher finish than what I was, but when everyone else does better than you, it’s kind of what happens,” Pinkcavitch said. “It was just tough competition, an easier day, greens were slower, low scores are going to be out. I am still proud of what I did.”
Head coach Michael Cipoletti thought his team had a lot more consistency in this outing than earlier on in the year.
“More consistently, guys played getting to the level I think we should be at. So, this is the best obviously scoring output we have had and consistent across the board right,” Cipoletti said. “The end of the season is in a couple of weeks, so it is trending in the right direction at the right time.”
Cipoletti continued saying that the team overall played better on the course this year than in years past.
“I was happy, that’s the best score we have had at that tournament too. Like, probably I don’t know maybe 10 or a dozen strokes. Definitely the best we have played there, and traditionally we haven’t played the best there,” Cipoletti said. “So, we beat our best ever at that tournament by 7 strokes. 315 was the best we ever played there. But we average like 340, so shooting a 308 there is good.”
The golf team gets back into the swing of things on Monday, Oct. 6 when the Yellow Jackets host the Waynesburg Fall Invitational at the Greene County Country Club. Tee time is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
