On Wednesday’s Men’s soccer fell to Pitt Greensburg 3-1, giving the Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season.
This is the first time since 2011 that Waynesburg Men’s soccer have lost to Pitt Greensburg since the matchups started in 2011.
Waynesburg struck first with a goal from freshman Zachary Johnson in the 18:54 mark, putting Waynesburg on the board 1-0.
Johnson talked about his first goal as a college player.
“[First] goal felt amazing to be honest,” Johnson said. “Getting to celebrate with the team feels very different from high school. Getting to prove my worth to the team is unimaginable” Johnson said.
Sadly, this would be the only leading goal Waynesburg would have.
The Greensburg Bobcats came back, striking 3 goals at the 32:19, 55:04, and 75:01 marks, putting the score at 3-1, which would give Waynesburg their first loss of the season.
Johnson continued to talk about the team work during and after this loss and how the Yellow Jackets will move forward from this.
“We had the same mindset going into this game like all the other games,” Johnson said. “We hoped to improve to 4-0 but that just didn’t happen.”
“Main takeaway from this game is working through adversity and not worrying about the things we can’t control…” Johnson said. “Having senior Logan Corradi out with an injury was a big change for us,” Johnson said.
For Johnson, being a starter on a college soccer team is more than special for him.
“This team is something special because it didn’t matter to anyone that I was playing as a freshman. They all know that we got a job to do together and everybody helps out in some way.”
Waynesburg Yellow Jackets fall to an overall record of 3-1 and the Greensburg Bobcats get their first win of the season, going up 1-3-1 on the season.
Greensburg Bobcats will visit Bluffton University, also in Ohio, on Sunday with a 3pm kickoff time. Waynesburg will visit Baldwin Wallace in Ohio on Saturday with a 7pm kickoff time.
