Vinnie Heller On Saturday Oct. 4, the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets took a short trip up the road into Washington, Pennsylvania to take on the Washington and Jefferson Presidents. The Yellow Jackets lost to the Presidents, 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets are now on a two-game losing streak dropping their previous game to the Allegheny Gators, 2-1.
Sophomore midfielder Sarpong Kwabiah led Waynesburg in shots on goal with one.
“Every time I shot the ball; a goal is what I’m hoping for,” Kwabiah said. “Or something that will give the team the energy to keep playing hard.”
Both Waynesburg and Washington & Jefferson were deadlocked at zero heading into the second half.
The Yellow Jackets led the game with 11 shots to Washington and Jefferson’s nine. Waynesburg also led the game in corner kicks with eight to the Presidents two. Waynesburg finished the game with no goals, 11 shots, two shots on goal, three saves, eight corner kicks and seven fouls.
“Throughout the whole game we were looking for a goal or two to seal the game,” Kwabiah said. “We outplayed them in all aspects of the game.”
The Presidents finished with one goal on nine shots, four shots on goal, two saves, two corner kicks, and one foul. Junior forward Jimmy Gogol scored his fourth goal of the season and the game winning goal for the Presidents
Kwabiah said how the team felt heading into their next game against the Thiel on Wednesday.
“Going into next week we are looking forward to solving the biggest problems we have which is scoring, and to keep building our identity as a team, as a family and most importantly the man we have our faith in being Jesus Christ,” Kwabiah said.
Waynesburg is currently 6-4-1 overall on the season and 1-2-1 in conference play. Waynesburg will be at home Wednesday against Thiel with kick off set for 8 p.m.
