A season ago, the Waynesburg University men’s basketball team was plagued by injuries. Which resulted in a 5-19 record missing the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
Now they could start the season without one of their starters.
Senior Guard Jake Scheidt had surgery on a torn meniscus last week after suffering the injury during the teams’ first inter-squad scrimmage.
“After surgery, I was told six weeks from the Sept. 13,” Scheidt said about his recovery time.
That is good news for the Yellow Jackets, who are looking to be back in the PAC tournament conversation two years after losing in the conference semifinals to the Washington & Jefferson University Presidents, and Scheidt is a big part of this Waynesburg roster
Even though he is scheduled to be back before the season begins, he is not ruling out that he could miss a game or two to begin the season.
Whenever he is cleared for basketball activities it will be up to Head Coach Tim Fusina on how to get him ready for competition, since he will be missing most of the training camp.
Scheidt did mention that he is, “Going to be playing more of an aforementioned guard role as compared to a big role this season.”
Seeing the scrimmages in person, they are playing to their increased size and notable athleticism.
