Chris Fox On Wednesday, Oct. 8, Waynesburg’s Fine Arts Department hosted its first band performance of the year in the Marsh Center.
The Symphonic Band Mid-Semester Concert was a way to kick off the year and give the University and Community a taste of what’s to come.
“We played stuff like Frank Erikson’s Staccata for Band, Ride by Samual Hazo and a March called Washington Grays,” music program director and chairperson for the Fine Arts Department Eric Brewer said. “It’s just a good opportunity for the students to cut their teeth a little bit on some heavy music and get ready for the rest of the semester.”
This will be the first of many concerts this year for the Waynesburg Symphonic Band.
“We do a Chamberworks concert in the Marsh Center on October 23rd, and then I believe a choir concert up in Roberts Chapel near the beginning of November,” Brewer said. “We’ve got the big music program concert and then the Pittsburgh Symphony on December 10th.”
The musicians in the band are given a fun opportunity to participate in these concerts.
“I really like that we have a band at Waynesburg,” sophomore criminal justice major and treasurer of the band Sydney Kratsas said. It’s less high-stress than the bigger schools, but I still get to keep playing.”
The band’s next performance will be a Chamberworks Concert on Oct. 23 in Marsh Center at noon.
