Volleyball defeats Westminster in 5 sets

On Thursday night the Waynesburg University volleyball team beat the Westminster Titans in five sets.

The Yellow Jackets came into this match off a 3-1 loss to the Bethany Bison and was looking to get there first win since September 30th versus the Hilbert Hawks. 

Westminster was coming into this game winning five of their last six matches and sitting in 5th place in the PAC standings. 

The Yellow Jackets fell in the first and third set of the match losing 25-20 in the first set and losing 25-12 in the third set. 

Freshman right hitter Kristina Zadrozny talks about the team’s mentality heading into the fourth set down 2-1. 

“I feel like every single one of us wanted to win, so even though we were down, we did not let that affect us and we kept pushing.”

The Yellow Jackets went on to win the next two sets winning the fourth set 25-23, and the fifth set 15-10. 

Zadrozny talks about the many rallies Waynesburg made throughout the match and how the momentum builds on the road. 

“It is always nice to play at our home gym, but I feel like it’s always a good thing to change up the environment we are playing in,” Zadrozny said. “What matters is if we have fun and play for each other on the court, and I feel like every one of us did that today.”

The Yellow Jackets improve to an 1-2 conference record and an 8-10 overall record and sit in 9th place in the PAC standings. 

The team’s next match will be on Saturday October 14th as the Yellow Jackets will host the Washington & Jefferson President at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The start time is set for 11 a.m.
