Volleyball falls to Westminster in three sets

Waynesburg traveled to Buzz Ridl Gymnasium to face Westminster on Saturday evening. The Yellow Jackets were swept 3-0 by Westminster, losing 11-25, 14-25, and 18-25. 

Waynesburg was beaten in every stat except blocks.

The first set showed struggles for the Yellow Jackets throughout until the end with the Yellow Jackets going on a three point run and and an exchange of points to score 11 to Westminster’s 25 points.

The second set showed glimpses of fight from Waynesburg, with the team having a run of four points to bring the team to 14 points to Westminster’s 25 points.

The third set started with Waynesburg going on an eight point run. The set continued with Waynesburg maintaining their lead until the end after a 10 point run by Westminster to bring the set to an end with Waynesburg having 18 points to Westminster’s 25 points.

Waynesburg’s game leader in kills and aces was junior Kristina Zadrozny with seven kills and two aces. Freshman Kristen Shaffer led the team in blocks today with four. Junior Ray Baniaga led the team in assists with 13. 

Zadrozny said her thoughts on what the team can look forward to in the final stretch of the season.

“I think as a team our goal is to play together and just have fun. The goal is to always win, so hopefully we can get a few more wins to our record,” Zadrozny said.

Zadrozny also said how each person on the court has an important role.

“I think each person on the court has an important role,” Zadrozny said. “Each dig, set, serve, and kill is important. Every person contributes to the team’s performance.” 

The Yellow Jackets next match is at home against Washington and Jeffersonn on Wednesday Oct. 20 with a scheduled start time is 6:00 p.m.
