Waynesburg Packed for Annual 50’s Fest

I had the honor and privilege of getting to go to the 50’s Fest where there was a great opportunity to connect with the Waynesburg community as well as just getting to experience the uniqueness that Waynesburg has to offer. While I was at 50’s Fest I had the opportunity to interview a very popular and well-known man in the Waynesburg community,  Mr. Doug Wilson.

While I was interviewing Wilson, I found out that during the entire event he was live on his radio show, and he was providing fun music and commentary as the day was going on.

Going into this interview I knew I wanted to ask him questions that would not only relate to the event but that also related to him as well. The first thing I asked him was what made him want to be involved with this event, and the answer I got was shocking.

“During  the creation of this event they personally asked me to sit in on the meeting,” Wilson said. “They also asked me  to be the MC at the event and they thought I  was the man for the job and I  was eventually hired due to my  communication and radio experience.”

During the interviewI asked Wilson how long the 50’s Fest has been going on. To my surprise I found out that it has been around since the early 2000’s or maybe earlier. This was cool to hear because this shows that there has been a lot of commitment and effort put into this event and it also shows that the community was and is willing to come out and experience this day every single year.

According to Wilson, one of the biggest goals of this event is to draw a lot of attention to the town of Waynesburg, especially downtown Waynesburg. Mr. Wilson stated the 50’s Fest gives the community the ability to enjoy the uniqueness of the cars and the event itself as well as it gives people a chance  to connect with one another and it allows them to grow as a town and a community.

Going into my final interview question, I knew I wanted to finish off the interview with a bang so the last question I asked Wilson was how this event has changed his life.

“The broadcast is very different than any broadcast I had done before, so before this event happens, I adjust my entire broadcast for this specific event,” said Wilson.

Overall, I had a lot of fun interviewing Wilson, and I was happy to get involved with the Waynesburg community. I highly suggest going to this event because it gives you a chance to connect with people and it’s also just a fun place and thing to do on the weekends or while you’re in town.
