On Friday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Waynesburg University Health Services is hosting a Flu Clinic in the Auxiliary Gym for “Waynesburg University affiliated individuals”, according to Kelley Hardie, dean of students.
Samantha Steinmiller, nurse of Health Services, said that the clinic is, “only being held in the fall semester for flu season”, which stresses the importance of this event summarized by Steinmiller.
“Around three weeks is when germs start to float around,” Hardie said.
“An influx in the office has occurred, in which this is why we have the clinic, to hopefully contain the spread of virus,” Steinmiller added.
According to an email sent out by Hardie earlier in September to the Waynesburg University community, the clinic requires three items: An ID in the form of Driver’s License or US Passport, health insurance card and the Rite Aid Screening Questionnaire and Consent Form, which can be found attached to the email. The events partnership with Rite Aid is the reason for the required document.
“We do have other opportunities, several clinics around Waynesburg that do offer the flu shot,” Steinmiller said, regarding those who are not able to attend this clinic. “CVS, Rite Aid and Walmart run clinics all fall.”
“Our plan is to not have to turn anyone away. Walk-ins are welcome and we want to try and stay in the time that is scheduled. However, health is important to us, that’s why we are doing this so we can always find a way,” Steinmiller added.
To receive a flu shot during this clinic, sign up via the email link sent or email healthservices@waynesburg.edu
“We strongly encourage those who aren’t feeling well to come visit me, we can try and help with what we have and if we need to find them a place to receive the care they need,” Steinmiller said.
If students are feeling sick or having symptoms, Steinmiller is available 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is on call 24/7 for emergency medical issues.
