Ever wonder where you could watch our esports team play live? Waynesburg University just added a new watch area for people to watch them in person.
Up to 15 people can watch esports live with sports announcers broadcasting the game live with action-packed play by play.
Bringing more attention to this new facility is the end goal, and bringing more support for a successful program that only looks to continue to grow.
“In general collegiate sports are meant to be watched,” said Pioch.
All sports at Waynesburg University have some type of audience. With the watch area students, family, and faculty can watch them in person now.
“As we climb the ranks and play in bigger competitions it will help us with exposure. Then we can look in for sponsorships to build awareness with streaming,” said Pioch.
“It’s really cool the idea he has to bring more people in, but it’s not bringing enough attention that we want and not many people know about it,” said Albert Smolen, an athlete on the Rocket League team.
Smolen is a part of the Appalachian Region Emergents Division Champions in Rocket League.
Waynesburg University’s esports program wants to be supported by student-athletes and faculty just like any other sport.
The esports program plans on retaining more students and setting better hours for people to watch to increase their crowd.
Every single day except the weekends there are games going on for the esports team.
“With the addition of some new speakers that are being added to the watch area, we look forward to seeing more people interested in the program and watching us,” said Pioch.
