On Friday, April 11, Waynesburg University came together for an afternoon filled with hope, remembrance and community during this year’s Relay For Life. Held on Johnson Commons, the event began with emotional speeches from cancer survivors followed by a powerful lap around the Commons as students, faculty and staff walked behind them in a show of unity.
The night featured live music, entertainment and student-led activities that kept spirits high while supporting a meaningful cause. The Lamplighters, Waynesburg’s choir group, performed several touching songs, all while Upper Room, a student worship group, and “Soldiers and Sons,” a local two-man band added great energy with live performances. WU’s Line, Waynesburg’s theater group, also surprised attendees with their first-ever pop-up show, bringing creativity and fun to the evening.
Campus clubs and organizations hosted engaging booths that brought in donations and smiles. WCTV-14 hosted a cornhole toss, Waynesburg Cheerleading led a peaceful coloring station and the Sting Swing dance club invited participants to “pie the teacher.” UnionLatino served up refreshing snow cones, and the Student Activities Board kept everyone fed with hot dogs.
The evening ended with the heartfelt luminaria ceremony, where glowing bags lined the walkway in memory of loved ones lost and in honor of those still fighting cancer.
Thanks to the hard work, creativity, and compassion of everyone involved, Relay For Life at Waynesburg University was an evening to remember, and together, we’re taking meaningful steps toward a cancer-free future.
