Women’s Basketball defeats Carlow in dominant fashion

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Waynesburg University women’s basketball defeated Carlow University, 81-56.

Waynesburg executed what they needed to get the job done, and plenty more. Junior guard Kara McFadden led the offense in terms of scoring with 15.

“I thought we executed really well on both ends of the floor,” head coach Sam Jones said. “We were not perfect, but we contested almost every shot they took.”

Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Waynesburg was already pulling ahead. They led after the first quarter 24-13, only to extend the lead heading into halftime to 39-24. Then coming out of half, they had a 26-point third quarter.

This leading to the near 30-point victory that is seen on the box score. McFadden finished with 15 points while obtaining seven rebounds and dealing five assists.

“It’s all my teammates, and them finding me in the right spots at the right time,” McFadden said. “We worked as a team; we were all talking and communicating.”

Following McFadden’s performance, Waynesburg saw senior Clara-Paige Miller collect 13 points. Senior guard Kalista Friday had an all-around game featuring 10 rebounds, eight assists, and six points.

Waynesburg also had three players to give nine points in their efforts to help the team. Senior forward Tori Wesolowski, and junior guard Mia Henkins, along with sophomore Macie Justice having nine as well.

“She is just a great hard worker [McFadden]; she was the leading scorer,” Jones said. “But we had some other major contributors.”

Jones secured his 199th win against Carlow. Having the chance to join the 200 club is an achievement few do, but Jones was nothing but grateful for the opportunity.

“I am one win away from our next win this season,” Jones said. “Just grateful for everyone that has been here and bought into what we are doing.”

Jones will have his opportunity to get to that 200th career win soon, as Waynesburg still has two games left to play this week.

Waynesburg will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 21 when they take on Mount Union University in the Waynesburg Invitational Tournament. Their first game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
