Women’s Golf ends regular season with Grove City Fall Invitational

The Waynesburg University women’s golf team played in the Grove City Fall Invitational at Grove City Country Club on Monday. The Yellow Jackets placed seventh out of 10 teams.

This was the lady Jackets’ final match before the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Fall Championship.

Freshman Allison Wolling once again led the Jackets in individual scoring with a 94. Wolling started her day off with a 51 on the challenging front nine but would shoot her best collegiate nine-hole score of a 43 to place herself in solo 30th in the 65 player field.

Wolling kept her back nine train rolling making a collegiate best four pars, two of them being some of the hardest holes on the course with a two and eight handicap rating.

“I was very excited. I felt confident going into the course and hit a lot of good shots.” Wolling was then asked how she plans to prepare for the PAC Fall Invitational,” Wolling said. “Irons have been all over the place this season and I want to get rid of the three putts.”

Abigail Noble fell not far from Wolling on the leaderboard. Noble started out her day with a 49 on the front nine and a 46 on the back to end her round with a 95. This score put Noble in a tie for 31st.

To this date, this is Noble’s best collegiate round in fifteen appearances over her two years as a Yellow Jacket.

This year proves to be a time for improvement for Noble, bringing her scoring average down from a 115.67 last year to a 107.67 this year.

Avery Davis was the third Yellow Jacket on the board with a clubhouse score of 101. Davis had begun her day shooting a 57 on the front nine and would improve thirteen shots to a 44 on the back nine. This 101 would lead Davis to a tie for 44th.

Davis showed off her iron accuracy in the match, averaging a 3.75 on the four par-threes at Grove City Country Club; this average would be tied for 11th in the entire field.

Lexi Schmadel made her third appearance this year and would end her round with a 110. Schmadel would prove that the front nine was easier for her long ball, shooting a 53 and following it up with a 57 on the back nine. Schmadel would find herself in a solo 54th finish.

Schmadel would finish her day with three pars on the scorecard, third most of the Jackets on Monday and tied for 37th most of all the players.

“I was super excited for the last regular match since I was only able to play in three this season,” Schmadel said. “For the PAC Fall Invitational I look to improve my putting to really cut down on my total score.”

Emmarson Anderson would be the final Jacket to count towards the team scoring and ended the team’s day with a 114. Anderson would remain relatively consistent on the day with her front and back nine scores being 59-55, landing herself in a solo 57th position.

Anderson had an impressive start to the season, averaging a 110.75 through four collegiate starts.

Leigha Clapper played as a Waynesburg Individual on Monday, her first time filling in this role for the season, and would card a 139. Clapper shot a 64 on the front nine and rounded out her day with a 75 on the back, placing her 65th in the field.

The Yellow Jackets look to pin hunt at their final fall event, the PAC Fall Invitational, held at Avalon Lakes in Warren, Ohio. This event will be a two-day tournament; starting on Monday, Oct. 13 and finishing on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
