On Saturday, the Waynesburg University Women’s Basketball team played in Latrobe PA, against the St Vincent Bearcats, losing 70-58.
In what was a back-and-forth affair, at the end of the first quarter the Lady Jackets led 19 to 17.
It was St Vincent though battling back and taking the 34 to 25 leads at halftime.
The Lady Jackets, who had a strong first quarter allowed Alana Winkler to score 10 first half points, while the Lady Jackets leading scorer was Tori Wesoloski with 5 first half points.
Wesoloski had this to say about how good Julz Mohrbacher, “She’s not only a great player and ever nicer person, but she’s also so versatile on the court and is a big part of this team.”
To start the third quarter the Jackets tried starting a little run cutting the lead the Bearcats had from nine to six, but it was the Bearcats who continued to build on the lead they held from halftime coming out of the third quarter up 48-41.
Going into the fourth quarter Kalista Friday had a team high 11 points. Though the Lady Jackets battled through most of the second half it was the Bearcats who took away the win 70-58.
Propelling the Bearcats to eight and six in the conference and 10 and nine overall, while the Lady Jackets fall to three and 11 in the PAC and four and 15 overall.
While this team has been struggling Freshman Mia Henkins on the potential of this team, “Four of our five starters are freshman, so we don’t have a ton of experience yet. I think in a year or two once we decipher what lineups play well together and what skills we need to improve on, we can start taking over games.”
The next time the Lady J’s play is when they travel to Geneva on Wednesday to play the Golden Tornadoes. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
