Yellow Jackets bring back three placers from Baldwin Wallace

On Saturday Feb. 3, the Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to  Berea, Ohio to compete in the 37th annual John Summa Invitational hosted by  Baldwin Wallace University. 

The Yellow Jackets placed 9th out of 13 schools that competed on Saturday. Jesse Orbin, Cole Homet and Jacob Wilson were the three Jackets to place at the  tournament. 

Orbin placed fourth at 184 pounds, starting the day of with a first round byebefore going on to drop his opening match to Kyle De Moss (Otterbein) in the second round. Orbin went on to defeat  Wilkes’ Omari Watson in the consolation bracket. He then avenged his earlier loss by defeating De Moss in a  rematch which advanced Orbin into a 3rd place match. Orbin would injury forfeit out of the tournament with a knee issue, but concluding with a very solid 4-2 performance on the day.  

Homet did not have a first round bye at 149, but he did defeat his first-round  opponent, Benjamin Lloyd, (Alfred State) as well as  his second-round  opponent, Austin Parker (Thiel) by pinfall. Homet dropped his third match of the day to the number one nationally ranked 149-pounder, Michael Petrella (Baldwin  Wallace). Homet went on to place 6th with a similar 4-2 performance on the day.

Jacob Wilson won his first-round bout against Andrew Mushkin (Ohio Wesleyan)  and then lost his second-round bout against Jeremy Devine (St. John Fisher).  Wilson went on to finish 7th in the 165 pound bracket. 

Ayden Bishoff won two matches in the 197 bracket after losing his opening match. Jarvis Thomas also lost his opening bout but went on to win two bouts in the consolation bracket, including a win over teammate Brayden Barbao at 157. Also  at 157, junior Seth Evans scored a 4-3 decision over Justin Ritchie of Baldwin  Wallace. The Jackets will take on Muskingum University in a non-conference dual on Saturday, Feb. 10,  at 1 p.m..
