
There is an increasing number of Christian athletes at Waynesburg University having an influence both on and off the field at Waynesburg University. In ways that go far beyond the scoreboard, their dedication to athletic achievement and solid Christian basis is supported by the idea of a Fellowship Christian Athletes.
Sam Jones, the head coach for the women’s basketball team, leads the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on this campus.
Jones is continuing to encourage student athletes here to strive for excellence in both academic and athletic endeavors by using this innovative strategy, which also helps student athletes in their busy lives to feel a sense of purpose.
“FCA allows these athletes, most importantly individuals, to use their skills to fulfill their devotion to sports performance with their faith in God,” Jones said. “It allows members in the organization to integrate their faith with their commitment to excellence in sports.”
For many student athletes, there can be a difficulty to balance their competitive athletics while working toward a degree. With christian athletes constantly figuring out and trying to find strength between their sport and faith. Jones is creating a close-knit group in mentorship, spiritual guidance, and emotional support. The support system may assist athletes in overcoming challenges, which fosters a sense of belonging.
“Being new and young, Christian athletes can find it daunting, but this FCA leadership and Coach Jones are proving crucial efforts in helping us athletes find our strength.” said Landon Eztel, freshman guard on the Men’s Basketball team.
