Wilson, football team looking to involve students

Larry Wilson is ready to hit the ground running at Waynesburg University as the new head coach of the football team. In order to do so, he needs your help.

One of the things that Wilson stressed the most was getting the support from students.

“Hopefully we can get the student support,” Wilson said. “I’d love to have a home field advantage and see the students at the stadium having fun and taking pride in their team.”

Last season, Waynesburg University home football games had an average attendance of 1,063.

  • Sept 6 vs John Carroll: 1,584
  • Sept 20 vs Hiram: 950
  • Oct 4 vs Allegheny: 1,321
  • Oct 18 vs Geneva: 788
  • Nov 8 vs Saint Vincent: 676

According to waynesburgsports.com, John F. Wiley Stadium has a capacity of 4,000, which means the attendance at every Waynesburg home game in 2025 was fewer than 40%.

“I’m going to tie the players in with the student body so we can get this thing moving in the right direction,” Wilson said. “We’re going to need the students to be a factor when we’re playing at home.”

Not only is Wilson looking for students to show up in the crowd, but he is also looking for student workers to assist the football team in several different areas, including with equipment, film, recruiting, operations, creative content and student assistant coaches.

Wilson is looking to involve the Waynesburg student body.
