Family movie night Eva K. Bowlby Library

Eva K. Bowlby Library is hosting a family movie night this Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. For this weekend, the movie is James Gunn’s Superman, which was released earlier this year.

Matthew Derosiers, the PR and IT manager at Bowlby Library, oversees the library’s movie nights.

“We do a movie night every month,” Derosiers said. “It’s always the first Friday of the month, unless there’s something going on, and we have to move it to another evening during the month. Almost always, it is the first Friday of the month.”

The library can pick movies for these movie nights using their license as a public.

“We choose our movies through a license that we have as a public library, so we can show whatever movies are on that,” Derosiers said. “We usually try to go for more recent movies, that way people get a chance to see something they may not have been able to see in theatres. It’s just what we think the public would enjoy.”

The movie night is listed on their events page on their website, along with other events they host for community engagement. The listing notes that the library is also providing light refreshments with the movie that include, according to Derosiers, small bags of chips and bottles of water.

In addition, the movie is showing in the Community Room downstairs, with either chairs and tables or lawn chairs, depending on the number who sign up.

“We’ve had a lot more people who prefer to use the lawn chairs,” Derosiers said. “It makes for a little cozier of a feel. But if anyone who comes wants to bring their own stuff, we’ve had a couple people bring pillows that they wanted to sit on. We don’t have an issue with you bringing anything you want.”
