History Club has new leader

The History Club at Waynesburg University is set for the 2026 spring semester, but now has a new leader.

Michael McCready, a junior public/applied history major, was named the new President of the History Club and will be the frontman for the club and all their success heading into the foreseeable future. McCready served as the Vice President for the History Club the past two semesters.

“Being President of the History Club is something that excites me, as I see it as a challenge to be able to get students involved in an organization,” McCready said. “We just try to get as many students involved for them to know that even if you don’t care about history or like history, this is a space for you to be involved with and be open minded.”

McCready plans to jump right into action with the History Club and wants to be able to get some new ideas into existence moving forward in his new role.

“My main goal is to get more educated speakers, like museum officials or museum workers or professors at Waynesburg University, and to go on some field trips just to show students what an actual historic site is,” McCready said.

Eddie Frizzell and Daniel Flynn, two members of the History Club, are also eager to embark on this new journey with McCready at the helm.

Frizzell, a sophomore finance major, and Flynn, a junior sports media (announcing) major, have been members of the History Club for the past few semesters and have enjoyed their commitments to the club so far.

“I enjoy it,” Frizzell said. “I feel like it’s very informational and it’s always a good time to go and see everybody there.

“It’s been nice with the meeting being in the evenings,” Flynn said. “I’m hoping to attend more than last year.”

Frizzell would like to see some similar events take place within the History Club moving forward.

“I would like to have more speakers come in just so we can get more of a sense of what’s going on,” Frizzell said. “There’s only so much Michael [McCready] can do for it because he’s just one person, so having more speakers come in would be quite wonderful.”

Flynn would like to see some improvements made to the club this semester but have them be more focused on modern history.

“Explore some more recent history like from the 1980’s to early 2000’s just because it’s stuff that I don’t know too much since it was right before I was born,” Flynn said.

Flynn has known McCready since their freshman year here at Waynesburg University. With both playing on the baseball team, this connection through sports has brought a good amount of respect to Flynn’s and McCready’s friendship. Some words of encouragement were given to the new President of the History Club by Flynn.

“No matter what the task is, Michael puts a lot of hard work and effort into it,” Flynn said. “This is no different, he is dedicated and known that he will do a great job at it. I don’t see anyone else more fit to lead the club to be honest. I am excited to see what he does this semester.”

According to an email from McCready, the History Club had their first official meeting with newly elected President McCready on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Stover Campus Center room 302. In this meeting, McCready’s agenda was to discuss plans and goals for the semester. Along with this discussion, there was a presentation used to outline what members can expect from the history club throughout this semester.

The History Club plans to hold meetings every other week on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. moving forward this semester.
