WU Student Senate Freshman Student Senate election results are in as of Sept. 3, and those elected are now on the job.
“This has been one of the most successful freshman elections that I have witnessed in terms of voter turnout,” student senate president Olivia Toth said.
Four new senators were elected this term: Eddie Roy Perot Jr., Christian Anderes, Acelan Laughlin, and Devin Lytle.
Perot Jr., a pre-physical therapy major, spoke of his decision to run.
“I just love the way the government works and its processes, and it’s been amazing so far as a Stover scholar, being able to learn more,” Perot Jr. said. “I definitely want to apply to this campus, and it’s been so nice being welcomed in. Waynesburg is a really warm community. It feels like I was really part of the family, and I wanted to contribute towards that and make other freshmen’s experience a lot better.”
The other classes of student senators were elected in the spring, and they will continue to serve with the incoming freshman throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
Major accomplishments from the senate last year include changing the Benedum Dining Hall menu based on student feedback, creating professor spotlights and gathering information to help update the Fiat Lux classes, according to @wu.senate on Instagram.
Some written goals for Fall 2026 from last year’s academic report include raising engagement on polls, reducing paper waste, and establishing clearer channels between advisors and advisees.
Student Senate meetings are held on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Stover Campus Center. The meetings are open to all students and faculty who want to listen, provide feedback, or voice their concerns.
“I encourage every student to speak up, ask questions, and advocate for the changes they want to see,” Toth said. “When we communicate openly and work together, we have a much stronger opportunity to create meaningful change.”
