A magical bingo night

Bingo night has always been a largely attended event for the Waynesburg University Student Activity Board. The same rang true for the first bingo event of the semester.

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, the university’s SAB hosted the first bingo night of the spring 2022 semester. Students came together at 8 p.m. in the Benedum Dining hall to compete for prizes including clothing items, groceries, blankets and more.

According to Student Activity Board member Joshua Gurtner, who has been with the SAB for four years, the turnout to the event is always a good one.

“Every time we get a very big turnout and I’ve heard nothing but good things about this event. It’s a lot more fun and it’s definitely very much enjoyed,” Gurtner said.

Gurtner said he is very active within the organization and that he enjoys helping out with the bingo event.

“Oh, I love helping out with the event every year. You just feed off the energy of the student as I’m sure you can hear behind us,” Gurtner said. “People are booing, they’re hissing, but they’re also having fun. There’s a jovial aspect to it. They like it, but it’s fun.”

For some students who attended the event, there seemed to be some magic in the air to aid them in their winnings. Senior Rachel Sanders was one of those students.

“So, funny story, my housemate Sophie thought that she got the lucky boards and she went to the bathroom and we actually stole her boards and switched them out and then I won twice so I think I took her luck and that’s the reason why I won twice,” Sanders said.

According to Sanders, the last time she had attended the SAB bingo event was during her freshman year. Sanders said she felt lucky coming into this bingo night.

“I think that this magic board that I have might give me one more win,” Sanders said. “I’m hoping for some sweatpants that are up there, so we’ll see.”

The Waynesburg University Student Activity Board tries to host bingo night bi-month or monthly. Keep an eye on the SAB’s Instagram page and the Toilet Paper to know when future events occur.
