As the sun began to set Friday, Sept. 8, students gathered in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center as the Student Activities Board showed the summer’s top-grossing movie; “Wonder Woman.”
Sadie Breon, a junior psychology major, is the chairperson of novelty and showtime for SAB and carefully selected the film to be presented.
“Wonder Woman,” which made approximately $814.6 million worldwide, starred Gal Gadot as the determined heroine. Breon recognized the crowd-pleasing quality of an action flick. Breon and the members of SAB must consider selecting movies that are not only mission-compliant but appeal to everyone.
Students made their way to the GPAC before the 8 p.m. start time, most were dressed in comfortable clothing to relax during the movie. One of the students wrapped in blankets was freshman nursing major Morgan Conley.
“I think it’s a good way to get involved and meet new people on campus,” Conley said on attending the event. Two weeks into the semester, Breon was offering the movie night as an outlet for students to decompress from stress caused by the start of the school year.
“It’s nice to see people coming out and hanging out together and taking a break from studying,” Breon said.
“Wonder Woman” was originally planned to be shown outdoors on a screen in front of the GPAC, but was moved indoors due to the bad weather conditions.
Breon and other members of SAB began setting up the GPAC at about 7:30 p.m. Breon, who admittedly enjoys the hectic fun of setting up just as much as many of the events themselves, prepared the popcorn machine, refreshments and tables. During the movie, the SAB also offered popcorn and drinks to the viewers.
There was also a basket that was raffled to those in attendance. Inside the basket were prizes aimed at movie-night essentials, including candy, popcorn and movies.
“Throughout your four years here if you go to the events and if you interact with people, I feel like you’ll have a much more fun experience in college and just in general,” Breon said.
