Ally Wolling The Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team dropped another Presidents’ Athletic Conference game against the Grove City College Wolverines, 94-73, on Saturday evening at the College Arena in Grove City, PA.
Waynesburg falls to 7-16 overall, and 3-11 in PAC play this season, in last place in the south division.
Waynesburg’s top performer was junior guard Jackson Rhodes, who led the team with 21 points and four rebounds in 38 minutes. Rhodes picks up his fifth 20-point effort this season and eclipses the 250-point mark with the performance
“It feels good to become an efficient scorer for our team,” Rhodes said. “My shot is becoming increasingly consistent, getting to my spots from the perimeter and the paint shots have been more effective too.”
Senior guard Scott Bilovus, junior Aiden Blake, and senior Casey Keesee all racked up 10-plus points each, and Bilovus finished with 17.
Waynesburg shot 33 percent from beyond the arc, outscoring Grove City in the three-point totals; however, the Wolverines dominated under the basket as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 38-20 in the paint.
The Yellow Jackets started the game with an 8-4 run over the first three and a half minutes of play, but quickly the Wolverines rebounded to take a 26-15 lead by the end of the first 10 minutes.
In the final 10 minutes of the first half, Waynesburg was able to keep pace and ultimately took a 45-38 deficit into halftime.
Grove City took command in the second half, running away with an 18-9 run in the final five minutes to seal a 94-73 win.
Waynesburg plays its final two games next week, at home against Chatham University, and then rounds out the schedule against Washington & Jefferson College
Waynesburg’s matchup against Chatham is the final home game of the season at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse; it is also the annual Suicide Awareness Game, and tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
