Corbin sets Waynesburg single-game home run record

Fourteen games into her Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets career, Braylee Corbin did something historic. The transfer from WVU Potomac State homered three times in the same game as Waynesburg went on to beat Mount Aloysius College, 9-1.

According to waynesburgsports.com archives, the previous single-game home run record (two) was shared by six players since 1993, including Corbin herself who homered twice in a game on Feb. 27 against Carlow.

“It felt pretty good,” Corbin said. “I was more excited about going opposite field. I’m a pull hitter so I struggle to hit opposite.”

For reference, Corbin’s second home run of the game was hit into opposite field. The first homer traveled to left, and the record-breaker was hit to center, and it also initiated the run rule to end the game.

Despite the Yellow Jackets boasting a 6-2 record in their trip to Myrtle Beach for the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, the team hit no home runs across the whole week. Today, Corbin took matters into her own hands.

“I hit a little bit of a slump for a few games,” Corbin said. “It was nice to have my team pick me up. Jamie Kelly really helped me adjust my swing.”

Kelly, who was teammates with Corbin at WVU Potomac State, also hit a home run in the 9-1 win. The two transfers have combined for 24 RBI in the 14 games so far this season.

Corbin hopes that the rest of the team continues swinging a hot bat as conference play looms.

“I’m hoping that we keep our bats going,” Corbin said. “Coach Brunson told us that someone from our one through nine hitters is going to get a hit, so I hope we keep on hitting.”

The Yellow Jackets have had multiple players with big games so far this season– sophomore Graeson Grubbs, senior Bella DeMark and Corbin all have five-RBI games this season.

Waynesburg, now 11-3 on the season, has 11 days off before starting conference play on the road against Washington & Jefferson.
