Students and faculty members at Waynesburg University took a break from their busy schedules to engage in a friendly and competitive kickball game Thursday, Sept. 23.

The event was originally scheduled for students and faculty to face off against each other but due to low student attendance, it led to mixed teams.

“It was kind of cool to meet a lot of the faculty,” Seth Robertson said.

One of the faculty members that took advantage of playing kickball was Waynesburg University President Douglas Lee.

“It was loads of fun,” President Lee said. “I get carried away in these kinds of things and it happened again today.”

Students took advantage of getting to interact with President Lee and the other faculty members in a unique setting.

“President Lee played third base and I played shortstop and I talked to him a lot when we were up batting so I definitely had a lot of fun just interacting with President Lee,” junior sports media student Brock Owens said.

Whether they walked away a winner or loser, all of the students and faculty members in attendance had the same thoughts on the event.

It was a lot of fun,” Anna Rape said. “[It was] very fun. [My team] lost, but it was still very fun to play.”

Despite also being on the losing team, President Lee found the event to be enjoyable for all parties involved.

“I loved it and I know everyone else here did as well,” President Lee said.

“It was a ton of fun out there,” Owens said.

After the game, Students echoed a high rating of the event and experience.

“Definitely rate it a 10 out of 10,” Robertson said. “It was a lot of fun.”

Students and faculty members are already interested in the possibility of doing an event like this again.

“I really, truly love this idea,” President Lee said. “It was a great experience and yeah I hope we get to do more of these. I’m completely in favor of it.”
