A Mardi Gras celebration Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Beehive will have food, games and more.
Assistant to the Student Activities Board (SAB) Kevin Thacker wants a big turnout for the event.
“This provides a great experience and helps with the metal state of students and get their minds off school, so they are not as stressful,” Thacker said.
A Graduate Assistant of Student Engagement Larissa Howe had a ton of background information on Mardi Gras and why it will help the students at Waynesburg University.
“Mardi Gras falls on a day called ‘Fat Tuesday,’ which is traditionally meant to be a day of indulgence before we being lent,” Howe said. “People typically fast from lent till Easter Sunday, so this is meant for people to indulge and practice self-discipline.”
SAB is looking for this to be a big turnout as they all know that people love food and playing games.
“I want people to experience something they normally would not experience,” Thacker said.
SAB hosts plenty of activities like this, but Mardi Gras is important as you can grow your relationship with God.
“This is one of the ways that can help Waynesburg University grow and help students grow,” Howe said. “This holiday is typically celebrated in the south as most students do not have the chance to experience different cultures from around the country and this event gives us that opportunity to spread the beauty of this holiday.”
“The biggest thing I am looking for is feedback from the students,” Thacker said.
The feedback is important as they try to do activities that the students will like.
“I am hoping that everyone that attends gets to see how beautiful the New Orleans southern culture really is,” Howe said.
