Waynesburg volleyball falls to Saint Vincent in four sets

Alyson Johnson continues her strong season with 31 digs

The Waynesburg University volleyball team battled but came up short on the road at Saint Vincent Thursday night. 

The Yellow Jackets lost in four sets (16-25, 18-25, 25-22, 10-25), dropping their seventh-straight match and falling to 7-17 overall and 3-13 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. 

Saint Vincent (8-13, 5-9 ) jumped out of the gate with a strong performance despite struggling during the 2021 season as well. The Bearcats took the first two sets of the match to earn a commanding 2-0 match advantage, but the Yellow Jackets responded in a tough-fought third set.

Waynesburg won set number three 25-22 in the team’s best performance of the night, before falling apart in the fourth set and losing 25-10 in the matches’ largest margin of defeat. 

Makayla Osborn led Waynesburg with 12 kills followed by 11 from Alexys Marsh. Mya Brooks and Hannah Buhr also recorded six kills apiece. Paige Cousley catapulted the offense with 34 assists while Alyson Johnson continued her strong play with a commanding 31 digs.

The Yellow Jackets were handled on the stat sheet, committing 29 errors compared to Saint Vincent’s 16, being out served 8-2 in aces, and hitting a significantly low .054 compared to .198 for the Bearcats. 

Waynesburg is set to face Chatham on Saturday at 11 p.m.
