Women’s golf falls to Carlow

The Waynesburg University women’s golf team competed in a dual golf match against the Carlow University Celtics at the Youghiogheny Country Club on Saturday. The women lost to the Carlow by a final score of 624-429.

Head coach Sam Jones was pleased to see the girls improve their scores and overall play on the course, noting significant strides in play from each member of the team.

“Three out of our five girls improved and two out of those three improved a lot,” said Jones. “We just need to keep on improving every week and get better at the game of golf on a collegiate level.”

Jones believes that the team can continue to improve their scores and climb up the rankings of the PAC as the season carries on. He said that each time out on the course, he sees the women working hard and prospering.

“Next week we just need to improve and get better, that’s what we need to do every week is improve,” said Jones.

For the Celtics, it was junior Natalie Abt who led the way to victory over the Yellow Jackets. Abt shot an 83 at the golf course that has a par of 72. The loss makes the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets’ women’s golf team 0-1 on the season with one match left before the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Fall Championships.

On Wednesday, the team traveled to Glengarry Golf Links in Latrobe to compete in the St. Vincent Fall Invitational. The results for this invitational were released after publication.

The Waynesburg University women’s golf team has only a total of six golfers, with only two seniors.

The Waynesburg University women’s golf team is projected to finish in sixth out of the seven total teams in the PAC this season. The PAC Championships will take place Oct. 1-2 in Warren, Ohio at the Squaw Creek Golf Course.
