The Waynesburg University Student Activities Board hosted auditions for the annual singing competition, “Waynesburg Idol,” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event ran from Tuesday, September 5th to Wednesday, September 6th. Auditions were held in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center, where the WU Idol competition will take place.

Megan McElligott, graduate assistant for Student Activities, worked as a part of SAB to lead the auditions. Ten to 12 students were scheduled to audition for this year’s show.

Participants who auditioned were assigned to perform a song of their choice. From “You Belong with Me,” by Taylor Swift to “It’s A Man’s Man’s World,” by James Brown, students showcased a plethora of variety. If asked to move on, performers will have to prepare different songs for various themes.

Last academic school year, WU Idol was able to attract an audience of over 100 people. With COVID settling down, McElligott is hopeful audience attendance will increase.
“Not a lot of people knew what WU Idol was because we just brought it back a couple of years ago,” McElligott said. “I am excited for students to come and watch our performers and watch our students show off their talents.”
Applicants were notified last Friday if they made the show. According to McElligott, judges have not yet been confirmed. Future performances will take place September 23 and 30, and the final show is scheduled for October 7.
