Women’s Soccer Challenges AMCC Champions

The women’s soccer team has had a hot start to the season as they are 2-1, with a scorching 13 goals forward which leads the Presidents Athletic Conference.

Their next game will be Tuesday against Pitt Greensburg at 3 p.m.

“Pitt Greensburg is really good, they are fast and crafty so we have to look deep for some weakness, ” said Head Coach DeAugustino. “We have to be disciplined when we defend and use different formations to prepare.”

Pitt Greensburg has a current record of 2-2, and has most of their team returning, along with adding six new freshmen.

“I think that we just need to continue to shoot, if you do not shoot you can not score,” said Haley Johnson, junior soccer player.

Johnson currently has one goal and one assist and will continue to look for more as the season progresses.

Julz Mohrbacher is currently the golden boot winner for the girls team as she has five goals which leads the team, as well as having one assist.

“We have to continue to defend as a team and pressure our opponents and we have done a good job so far but this is the best way to beat Pitt Greensburg,” said Johnson.

The girls will take this battle on at a neutral site which will be at Highmark Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

“I certainly hope the hot streak from the freshman continues, we just need to continue to do the little things and we will produce,” said DeAugustino, “We will give our best each day so we can get a seat at the table.”

Waynesburg is coming off a two game win streak as they most recently defeated La Roche 8-1. Pitt Greensburg is coming off a loss to Dickinson College 6-1.

After this stellar matchup, the yellow jackets will head to Ohio as they will battle Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m.
