On Saturday October 7th, at Marisa Fieldhouse, the Lady Yellow Jackets had their annual Alumni day, however lost to the Bethany Bison 3 sets to 0.
Bethany held Waynesburg to less than 20 points in all three sets. With this loss the Yellow Jackets extend to their now 29-match losing streak.
Despite the less junior Paige Cousley said how there were positives to the loss.
“We kept working really hard,” she said. “I thought we were pretty aggressive too.”
Sophomore Paige Mortimore had the team high eight kills. Junior Jordan Stein also tied a match best of 12 digs defensively, with Mortimore also having 10 digs. Junior Riley Ruffley and freshman Kendal Ellsworth were tied in assists with 12 each.
Despite the loss, the goal and mindset remains the same.
“Our mentality is ready to go,” Cousley said. “We’re going to be ready to win some sets this week.”
Ellsworth spoke on what it is like to be a first year player and getting a lot of playing time.
“It is definitely a challenge at first,” Ellsworth said. “It helps a lot with the team supporting you. It is very easy to get in your own head, especially when you’re new but you just have to take a step back and realize it is the game you’ve been playing for years.”
Ellsworth also spoke on her great relationship with not only her teammates, but fellow freshman Kristina Zadrozny as well.
“I feel like with everyone on this team we are all really close,” she said. “Yesterday in practice Kristina [Zadrozny] and I were were working on getting our sets down and working working on different swings to take.”
The Bison are 12-5 overall with a 1-1 PAC record and will travel to Washington and Jefferson on Tuesday October 10th with a 7pm serve time.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 7-10 overall on the year and 0-2 in PAC play. Their next match is on Thursday October 12th when they travel to Westminster at 7pm start time.
