WU to host upcoming Christmas concert

This upcoming Saturday, Dec. 9, the Waynesburg University Symphonic Band and Lamplighters Choir will host a Christmas concert to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.

“The Music Program presents a Christmas Concert at the end of every fall semester,” music program director Eric Brewer said. “The Symphonic Band and Lamplighters Choirs perform music from the standard repertoire and holiday season. We are excited to share with parents and the community the hard work our musicians have done over the course of the semester.  It’s a great time to be together and celebrate the season.”

The concert will be held at Roberts Chapel at 7:30 p.m.. It is a chance for students in both the band and choir to showcase the work they have done over the course of the semester.

“I am very excited about the concert, and I hope that the students and professors will come to see what we have been working on,” said Rachel Engle, a sophomore at Waynesburg University who will be participating in the concert. “The band performs a repertoire of Christmas and/or Holiday music. It takes place on the Saturday after classes end. We rehearse the music for this concert during the second half of the semester after we return from fall break.”

This won’t be the only performance of the semester for the choir and band, but it may mean the most and be the most entertaining for music lovers.

“The Choir and Band both perform several times each semester,” Brewer said. But the end of semester concert is a way to display that hard work through more complex and involved pieces of music.”

The Symphonic Band and Lamplighters Choir have the chance to set a festive tone for the holiday to everyone in Waynesburg who attends.
