Baseball team stays hot after sweep of Franciscan

The Waynesburg University Baseball team took on Franciscan in doubleheader on Wednesday and picked up its sixth and seventh wins in a row with a 10-4 win and a 7-3 win.

Waynesburg is now 10-1 in the PAC and is on a seven-game win streak, all seven opponents being PAC teams.

In the first game against Franciscan Zach Scibelli started on the mound and got his second career win. Matthew Gaskill also came in the eighth inning and faced 6 batters and stuck out four of them.

On the hitting side of things Mike bell went two for five with a triple and a double, Garrett Comer went three for three at the plate and Lane Ours went two for four.

In game two it was Hudson Pincavitch who got his first career win pitching eight innings walking two and striking out one.

“It gives me all the confidence in the world, and I’m over the moon right now, and as for the bullpen we just feel complete as a unit and the bullpen has been utilized and all of us in the bullpen are happy,” Pincavitch said.

Pincavitch continued to say the team’s morale is high at this point in the year.

“We are just having such a good time with this right now we were picked seventh in the year, and we all had a chip on our shoulder and now we have just beat every expectation and you can just feel it when you’re at the games.” Pincavitch said.

Game two also saw the return of senior Marcos Mendez who had been out for almost a year with an injury.  Mendez was cleared in between games and even made a plate appearance going one for one at the plate.

“It’s honestly a surreal feeling, like I’m on cloud nine still from these last few hours,” Mendez said. “I got cleared in between games and to come back and be able to get a hit is just something that ive been wanting for months now.”

Waynesburg takes on the number one seed Washington and Jefferson at home on Saturday with the first game starts at 1pm.
