Waynesburg Baseball splits series against Juniata

The Waynesburg University baseball team faced off against Juniata in a double header on Saturday, splitting the series losing the first game 5-3 and winning the second game 6-4.

Dalton Lucey pitched the first game, picking up his second loss of the season, moving his record to 6-2.

On the hitting side of things Dalton Mount went two-for-four, and freshman Garrett Comer went two-for-four.

In game two the Jackets won, and they tied the single season win record, and the team has the chance to break that record with one more double header this Saturday against Denison.

Ethan Erhard started on the mound for game two, pitching five innings allowing five hits and only one run, while walking four and striking out five.

“It feels great to tie the program record, it would’ve been nice to beat it against Juniata, but now we can go beat it against one of the best programs in Division three baseball in Denison,” Erhard said.

Erhard feels the bullpen this season has gotten better from last, contributing to the team’s success.

“It feels great to be able to contribute to a pitching staff that struggled last year, and the improvements rom guys like Matthew Gaskill, Hudson Pincavitch and others to name have really done great in the bullpen to hold games.”

Lucey talked about how confident he is in the team’s ability to make a run in the playoffs.

“I’m confident we can make a deep run and will make a lot of noise in the playoffs.”

Lucey said how just getting this far in the season shows how it is a success.

“Feels great to have such an achievement. I’m very proud of this team this year and how we have stepped up.”

Waynesburg takes on Denison in a doubleheader this Saturday starting at 4 p.m. in what will be their final regular season series before the playoffs.
