Celebrating its 23rd year, Waynesburg’s annual 50s Fest and Car Cruise was in town this past Saturday, Sept. 13. Downtown Waynesburg was blocked off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m for vintage cars from all over to line the streets.
WANB radio DJ Doug Wilson was in attendance, spinning 50s hits alongside hosting events such as a hula hoop contest, bubble gum blowing contest and twist contest. However, the vehicles are always the biggest draw towards the event.
“You’re seeing vehicles in their natural environment parked on the street,” Wilson said. “You’re going to see classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, street rods, rat rods, hot rods and everything in between.”
The event is always free of charge for attendees as well as registered vehicles. When asked what his favorite part of the event is, Wilson said there’s no one thing.
“You’re going to see five-year-olds, you’re going to see 85-year-olds, and everyone in between,” Wilson said. “Some people come out to see the vehicles, some people come out for the music, and some people just come out because they know they’re going to see friends and neighbors there.”
Wilson talked about 50s fest as something that people need to witness.
“It’s an opportunity to see a part of Americana that you might not get the opportunity to see somewhere else,” Wilson said.
Additional attractions such as food vendors, door prizes, goody bags, raffles, giveaways and special offers from local shops were also included in the activities.
